Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is the clear successor to last year’s Mi Mix 2 and Mi Mix 2S, now redesigned to compete head-to-head with the Honor Magic 2. It offers very similar specifications and features, and it also utilizes the same unique slider design as the Magic 2. Only time will tell if the slider form factor of yesteryear is truly making a comeback, but the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is one of two smartphones in recent months to reintroduce this design. This is our full review of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

Design

The overall design of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is nothing short of what you would expect from Xiaomi. The Mi Mix 3 utilizes Xiaomi’s signature ceramic backing and a 7-series aluminum frame along the perimeter. The combination of ceramic and aluminum provides excellent build quality and at 218g the phone feels very substantial. Some may not like the weight, as it is one of the heaviest phones on the market, but I personally didn’t mind the heft. The phone makes good use of rounded corners, curved sides, and tapered edges for better comfort and a stylish appearance.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro

What is Huawei Mate 20 Pro?

Costing more than the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and only slightly less than the iPhone XS, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the company’s strongest shot at the big time yet.

It’s a feature-rich device with three fantastic cameras on the rear, enough battery life to last multiple days and a design that’s up there with the best.

In fact, if it wasn’t for Huawei’s overbearing, slightly ugly software, the Mate 20 Pro would be the best Android phone you can buy in 2018.20-peo-

Huawei Mate 20 Pro – Design

In just a few years Huawei has gone from shipping phones that feel like knock-offs of other flagships to creating some of the slickest devices around.

The Mate 20 Pro is Huawei’s best-looking phone yet. While it certainly takes inspiration from the curvature of Samsung’s Galaxy S-series, it showcases enough individuality to make it stand out – and, personally, I’d put it right up there with the best designed phones around. OnePlus 6T

žhen it comes to flagship phones, OnePlus has established a two-device-a-year strategy. Similar to Apple’s ‘S’ branded, OnePlus’ ‘T’ phones aim to offer a refined experience on their immediate predecessors.

The OnePlus 6T looks to improve on the already excellent OnePlus 6 with a larger display, smaller notc

h, bigger battery and new fingerprint technology. Is it enough to take on Huawei Mate 20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S9, iPhone XS Max and Galaxy Note 9?

The OnePlus 6 ushered in a new design direction for the company and its DNA runs strong within the 6T. Thanks to a slightly larger display, this phone’s footprint is fractionally bigger and it is a touch heavier but beyond that, changes appear slight.

The back is a swathe of curved glass 3D glass that sits comfortably against your palm. At launch the two colours: Midnight Black and Mirror Black, sport two distinctly different finishes. In my opinion, the Midnight Black model I tested is the better looking of the two, with a distinctive S-shaped reflection appearing across its back when the light hits it that has an almost opalescent quality.

It’s a nice effect and repels fingerprints better than most glass-bodied phones, but it also lacks grip as a result. The opposite is true of the Mirror Black version, which offers an inky black reflective finish that looks great until you touch it, after which fingerprints, smudges and smears run rampant. Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus

Other than the newer Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the Galaxy S9 Plus is Samsung’s most advanced big phone thanks to its oversized screen and superb cameras – even if it all looks identical to last year’s S8 Plus. It’s also Samsung’s best phone. In fact, eight months after launch it remains at the top of our best phones list.

Without dramatic changes to the design, it’s only an iterative update to the S8 Plus – but it’s an iterative update to an Android phone that sat near the top of our best phones list for around a year.

That’s important to remember. We’ve tested the Galaxy S9 Plus for months now, and its low-light photos and big screen are the two most obvious highlights. It’s still Samsung’s grandiose 6.2-inch curved ‘Infinity’ display that will sell you on this more expensive phone over the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9, but both handsets have an improved 12MP camera that boasts a f/1.5 maximum aperture.

iPhone XS Max

The iPhone XS Max (pronounced ‘Ten S Max’) is the biggest smartphone Apple has ever made. With a 6.5-inch display, hardly any screen bezel and the now-iconic screen notch it’s a dominating presence in the hand.

It also dominates the pocket, both in terms of size and price. As well as being the biggest, the iPhone XS Max is also the most expensive iPhone to date, with Apple delivering a handset with a screen size that rivals the most premium of Android flagships.

61yu9gdghkl._sx569_This is a bold statement from a firm that has, up until last year with the introduction of the 5.8-inch iPhone X, resist

ed the urge to push the screen size envelope to the same scale as its Android rivals.

However, Apple has decided that now is the right time to supersize its smartphone display and the iPhone XS Max is the first generation of the new, larger form factor.

For those who crave more screen for video and gaming on the move, the expansive display of the iPhone XS Max will be a welcome Continue reading “iPhone XS Max”
